Profile overview
Lavanya is a researcher interested in the question of What Matters? Currently, she is pursuing her doctoral degree from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
She is a geographer turned rural developer interested in innovations transforming rural and indigenous cultural markets through digital platforms. She is the recipient of a fellowship from the University Grant Commission and ex alumni of UNSCC(United nation System Staff College).
She is also involved in developing a website that will be looking forward to discussing brainstorming issues in India, like understanding Gender as a spectrum but are we able to accept its colors in India? Religion and its introspection! Is it an option? The ancient history of Hindus and their survival! Are they a minority from the world perspective? Is it A concern? Are Muslims still a minority in India? Can we promote reading religion as faith for enlightenment and peace, not terrorism? Does religion specify gender and homophobia? What is the reality? Does the Indian youth have Pride in Indian culture? or does the historical oppression of the Indian subcontinent plays a part in driving youth away from Indian traditions? How can we connect rural India with the Urban continuum? Is there a wave of urban or educated youth returning to rural India?
Research topics
Collaboration information
I am happy to collaborate on topics of rural business transformation in India via digital platforms.
Currently, I have worked with several regional organizations in Almora, Uttarakhand involving women.
They were focused on highlighting women's traditional skills and knowledge in handloom, handicraft, and culinary business.
I am looking forward to having interactions and collaboration with scholars and research organizations who are working with indigenous art or knowledge-based projects based both India and around the world.
Moreover, I would like to heartily invite any research institute or organization that may want to have a national or international level conference or workshop at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. It will be our privilege to work in collaboration for highlighting different issues of national and international importance.
