Profile overview
Associate Professor Sawleshwarkar is a physician with expertise in infectious disease, HIV and STIs, global health programs, educational program development and capacity building. He brings a unique combination of relevant clinical, research and project management experience in India and Australia to partnership projects. He has more than 22 years of experience in initiating and coordinating collaborations including clinical trials, field-based trials, and helped develop the Australian Molecular Epidemiology Network-HIV (AMEN-HIV). His passion and dedication to global health transcends across several disciplines and Universities and has a long track record of delivering capacity building programs in India and the Asia-Pacific region. Dr Sawleshwarkar has received over AUD$4.2 million in competitive educational and research grants over the last 10 years, primarily from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for the delivery of short courses focused on HIV/STIs. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Global Health with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education’s Prasanna School of Public Health as well as Adjunct faculty at the Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences and Public Health Foundation of India.
