Profile overview

Dolly Kikon is an anthropologist. Her work focuses on the political economy of extractive resources, militarisation, migration, development initiatives, gender relations, food cultures, and human rights in India. Before coming to the University of Melbourne, Dr. Kikon led an interdisciplinary research project at the Department of Social Anthropology, Stockholm University. Her work focused on the increasing trend of outmigration among upland societies in Northeast India. Prior to obtaining her doctoral degree in Anthropology from Stanford University, Dr. Kikon worked as a human rights lawyer and a community rights-based activist in India.

I am committed to including communities as part of the collaboration and aim to make sure my output is an inclusive one. This includes inviting communities as collaborators and co-creators of knowledge. I have worked in Northeast India for more than two decades and my sustained engagement is grounded in listening, reflecting, and thinking together with collaborators (across communities, generations, and disciplines).
