Indian student trends in Australia

The latest data on the number of international students in Australian universities shows Indian students have been returning at a faster rate than many other countries.

More than 29,000 Indian students commenced higher education in Australia in the year to November 2022 – 160% more than the same time in 2021.

Australian Education Minister The Hon Jason Clare says the latest data shows the sector is continuing to recover after COVID-19, but there is more work to do.

“We are rebuilding our international education sector. We have broken the back of the visa backlog. We have also announced an extension of work rights for students who get degrees in areas where we have a skills shortage and students are coming back."

SBS Punjabi also reports India overtook China as the number one source of student visas to Australia in the second half of 2022.
