APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR AUSTRALIAN CANDIDATES ONLY

The Australia India Women Researchers’ Exchange (AIWE) Program is an initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration between Australia and India while addressing gender equity in STEM research.

The AIWE program offers five fellowships for early-career postdoctoral researchers in STEM disciplines. Each fellowship supports a 6 to 8-week research exchange to India, to be completed by 31 May 2025.

The fellowships will be awarded to Australian women STEM researchers employed at regional campuses of Australian universities to work with their counterparts at Indian higher education institutions.

The AIWE Program is administered by the Australia India Institute and funded by the Australian Government Department of Education.

Aims

The AIWE Program will contribute to the commitment and vision of both countries to improve gender equity for women researchers in STEM disciplines.

The aims of the program are to provide opportunities for AIWE Fellows to: 

  • develop their research agenda and networks with counterparts in the other country 
  • build on research publications and initiate new collaborative research 
  • expand their understanding of the higher education research environment in the other country 
  • become ambassadors for the Australia India academic research relationship 
  • promote research engagement beyond universities and higher education institutions located in major metropolitan centres and capital cities.  

Are you eligible to apply?

Research project

Applicants will be required to provide details of the research project and other activities they will undertake during their Fellowship period at their Host Institution in the other country.  

The research undertaken during the fellowship can either be for a new research project or contribute towards the applicant’s existing research project.  

Fellowship awards

AIWE Fellows will receive a lump sum to cover all travel and standard living expenses for 6 to 8 weeks in India. Fellows are required to spend a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 8 weeks at their Host Institution. Fellows must complete their research exchange at their Indian Host University by 31 May 2025.
